Heidelberg introduces a city tax on October 1, 2025

Overnight guests in Heidelberg hotels and other accommodation establishments must pay a tax of €3.50 per person per night to the city starting October 1, 2025. This was approved by the Heidelberg City Council at its meeting on June 5, 2025. Children and young people up to the age of 16 are exempt from the tax. The overnight stay tax applies to both private and business-related stays. Accommodation establishments must collect the overnight stay tax from guests and remit it to the City of Heidelberg.

Beach on the Neckarlauer

Get vacation vibes – in the center of the city

This summer, Heidelberg's Old Town will once again offer a backdrop for holiday feelings: From the end of May 2025, a sandy beach with a beach bar, deck chairs, benches, and sun shades will be located directly on the water at Neckarlauer in front of the Stadthalle. The bar will be open daily from July – whenever the sun is shining, from the afternoon until 10 p.m. Beach yoga will also be offered on some weekends.
